5 COAT STYLES TO ADD TO YOUR CLOSET THIS WINTER

5 COAT STYLES TO ADD TO YOUR CLOSET THIS WINTER

Oh Lordy, as I am writing this (Nov. 2) there is SNOW on the ground! Not sure how I feel about it…anyone else still mentally in March?! I feel like time doesn’t exist anymore, but here we are, its November, and its time to break out the coats!

As much as I love Summer, and not having to worry about coats, mitts, hats etc. I do love a chic and cozy jacket; and if you live in Canada like I do, we wear coats and jackets the majority of the year.

If you’re in the market for a new coat I’ve put together FIVE of my favourites, and how I like to style them.

THE CLASSIC DOWN COAT

I feel like most of you will have one of these in your Winter wardrobe. I mean, you kind of have to when that unexpected freezing rain pellets your body in April. It’s essential to have, especially in colder climates. This style of jacket has been done so many times, so I appreciate it when designers add a little style to an otherwise “boring” coat. This one I found at The Bay a couple seasons ago; its by Andrew Marc, and I really like it because although it is black, it has a sheen to it which (in my opinion) steps up the style points.

THE PLAID SHACKET

I know the shacket is super on trend right now, but (not to brag) I’ve been wearing this style of shirt/jacket hybrid for awhile now; and I honestly think that despite this style being seen everywhere, I view it as a more classic piece. Plus, plaid and cold weather never go out of style! I found this particular one thrifting last year and I’ve been loving it ever since. I find its the perfect piece to throw over a cute sweatsuit, or dress it up and belt it over a simple black dress.

THE SHEARLING BIKER JACKET

I would describe my style as both elegant & edgy. I love clean lines and classic styles, but I also enjoy leather, faux fur, and sequins! I have found that this Avec Les Filles faux shearling biker jacket is the perfect blend of the two. It’s a perfect transitional piece from Fall to Winter, as its quite a heavy jacket, but can be layered overtop of cozy knits when the weather gets cooler.

THE FUR/FAUX FUR JACKET

If you want to feel chic AF, and that you know what you’re doing with your life, you need a fur/faux fur jacket (your preference!). This style instantly elevates your outfit, be it a body-con dress, or jeans and a sweater. I’m always fierce, but as soon as I rock this little number from California Moonrise, I turn into Beyoncé I Am World Tour level fierce.

THE CROPPED PUFFER

I don’t know about you, but I shiver when I hear the word “practical.” If you know me personally, or have been following me for awhile, it’s not in my vocabulary. I instantly associate practical with no style. Like that ugly pair of church shoes your mom bought you. But, yes…this cropped puffer by Karen Millen is super stylish, and PRACTICAL! If you’re looking for something you can throw on with just about anything, this is the style for you. I’ve worn it to the gym over my leggings, AND with my favourite leather pants. See, practical!
